08.22.2003 Entry: "Why are we here?"
It’s a sad world we live in. The rich is getting richer and the poor is getting poorer. Corporatism is one of the biggest threats to humanity, with its selfish ways; it has destroyed our families ripping our deeply grounded roots out of America’s blood stained sole. With every company merging with another where does competition exist? Competition is the fundamental facet of Capitalism, keeping it alive by the benefiting consumer. Is there still a benefiting consumer? I honestly believe that Adam Smith would roll over in his grave if he knew what corporatism was doing to modern society. America is actually going backwards and for some strange reason no one knows why. Some of us do know why but we are so indulged in gluttony that we have forgotten why we are on this earth. Why are we here? Is it to learn from our experiences so we can make the future better for our children? Is it to learn to love by giving and sharing? What brings happiness? I have the feeling the American media would describe it as having a luxury car, a over sized house, a job that entitles you to everlasting wealth, and being independent with a “Me, Me, Me” attitude. Honestly this American attitude only furthers us away from the true meaning of life and community. It doesn’t matter what religion or organization you belong to. We are all in this together. Over the last year I have read and read searching for these answers. I have read Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, and many other doctrines, in all of these I have learned things that are not just in one book. I’ve truly enjoyed during this time the writings of Leon Tolstoy. Also with my searching I have found some great leaders that I have much admiration for. People like Mohandas Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Ernesto Guevara, and Leon Trotsky. There is time in your life when you have a choice: to continue indulging in gluttony exploiting innocent people so that you can get ahead in life. Or you can choose to make a difference in this world, living a life of giving and sharing. I am ever so disappointed in Christians especially the ones that claim to be servants of their lord when all they do is exploit others putting their faith into money and material things. Wearing their crosses of gold around their necks, if that is not mockery, then what is? I’ve tried to figure out why very few Christians follow the examples of Jesus. Maybe it’s the mentality of Christians that Jesus was perfect, that he wasn’t like us, that he had no problem resisting temptation. That everything was given to him and he didn’t need to learn and study. Is it that we think Jesus was perfect and since we are not that we do not need to try as hard. I don’t really know what religion I belong to, mainly due to that I believe that those who search for answers will come further ahead in life than the ones that believe everything they have heard. I believe that religion exists within and our channel to God is through ourselves. I truly think one of the most important principles that are over looked in the Christian religion come from a scripture that is overlooked or that people don’t understand. Matt 5:38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. Imagine what kind of world we would have if we practiced this? Just Imagine? I understand that it is a lot easier to condemn than to forgive. Living in America where we are forced to live in a society where we are so scared, that we must lock our doors, that we need a gun for our protection from Latinos and Blacks. That we need a SUV that gets 10 mpg for our protection in a car accident and it sure looks cool too! When all we hear and see on our televisions is violence, stereotyping Blacks and Latinos as societies criminals. Is racism greater today than it was yesterday? What is happening here? The media that is backed by corporate America is feeding us lies that we are being attacked, as if this was something new over the last 40 years. What better way to control people, having them consume because they feel they need something when they truly don’t. This Fear and Consumption is a never-ending game where we the American people never win. The same tactics that Hitler used to get Germany to follow, the Bush Regime is using now. History will always repeat itself, especially in a country where the average citizen is afraid to question authority. How can you call yourself patriotic if you can’t even think for yourself? Democracy without different opinions is fascism, without chaos one never learns. Ask yourself who is responsible for your life, for children’s life? We only have so much responsibility ourselves. The more I learn about history the more respect I have for the Muslim religion. If it were not for them we would not have the records of some of the greatest philosophers that ever lived. Mathematics as we know it, our educational institutions; our practice in medicine came from the Muslims. Our modern society that we Americans pride ourselves on reflects the Muslim Society of the 800’s A.D. At that time they were a thousand years ahead of the western world. I truly believe there is one evil that is greater than the rest in this world and that is Corporatism. I don’t believe it will last forever, Corporatism will eventually fall and the birth of global socialism will prevail. It will be a time of victory, when all children will be given an equal chance, morality and etiquette will be restored, and civility will triumph in our societies again.
